EMPLOYEE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA/SOCIAL NETWORKING

Regional School Unit (RSU) #74 is committed to protecting the rights of its students, employees and families. This policy addresses the personal use of social networking sites (e.g., Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn,YouTube, Twitter, Flickr and other social media sites) by RSU #74 employees. Staff may use social networks and platforms for professional use such as collaboration in curriculum development and instruction or other activities conducted in carrying out their job responsibilities.

RSU #74 employees are prohibited from engaging in social networking for personal purposes while carrying out their work responsibilities during the school day. The RSU # 74 School Board respects the rights of school employees to use social media as a means of communication and self-expression on their own time. In doing so, RSU #74 employees should remember that they are role models for RSU #74 students and that their social media conduct may be viewed as representative of the RSU #74 school district and its schools.

RSU #74 employees who use social media are expected to maintain a professional demeanor at all times in their postings on social media sites. Employees should avoid postings that may be perceived as detrimental to his/her effectiveness as a teacher/staff member or ability to fulfill his/her professional responsibilities, or which could reasonably be expected to result in substantial disruption of the instructional program or the operations of the schools. The RSU #74 School Board directs the Superintendent of School, or their designee to create and maintain guidelines for all staff here in.

Notice of this policy and guidelines will be provided annually or upon hire along with other acceptable use school policies.
