PHYSICAL EXAMINATION OF STUDENTS

SPORTS PHYSICALS

Students who plan to participate in any sports program in RSU #74 must show proof of a physical exam every two years to the day. Students who have had any illness or injury lasting more than one (1) week and requiring a doctor’s attention since their last physical examination, must have a signed release from their family physician in order to participate in any sports program in RSU #74. Any injuries must be reported to the Athletic Director. The School Nurse reviews all physicals and records any problems before filing them in the student’s health record.

SCREENINGS

Initial hearing, vision, and spinal screenings in selected grades will be done annually with results to be recorded on the student’s health record. Re-tests will be done and documented by the School Nurse. All problems identified by the screening tests will be reported by the School Nurse to the parent or guardian for purposes of referral to a health care provider. No written permission will be required for hearing and vision examinations. Parents/Guardians will be notified prior to spinal screening and may exempt their child from spinal screening.
