Re: Athletic Director’s May Report

High school baseball, softball, boys’ tennis, and track have had their first official contest of the year. Baseball & softball traveled to Buckfield. Unfortunately neither team came home with a win. Track had their first meet last night and the official results have not been posted yet. Boys’ tennis has been problematic for the simple reason that we had zero applicants for the coaching position. We were very fortunate to have Jim Davis step up and be willing to coach. We have ten boys playing tennis so we really were hoping to have a team. This is the most boys we have had play tennis in quite a few years. They had their first match last night against Spruce Mountain. As a team they lost but all the boys were very happy to have the opportunity to play.

The middle school has their first baseball and softball games Thursday vs Madison. As expected the numbers at the middle school are very healthy. We have fifteen boys in just the 7th and 8th grade playing baseball. Softball has sixteen girls in grades 6th through 8th. We just recently hired our junior high softball coach. Matt Scheve moved here two years ago from Arizona. Coach Scheve has a daughter on the high school team and two on the middle school team. He has been coaching his daughters’ travel softball teams for quite a while and most recently coached the Anson Rec baseball team last year. I feel Matt will be a great fit for the softball program.

Thank you,
