RSU #74 Instructional Planning/Preparation Time

The RSU #74 School Board recognizes the importance of providing teachers with time during the work day to plan and prepare for student instruction, evaluation and grading of student work, meeting with principal and colleagues on student and school needs, meeting with individual students and parents and to perform other related duties. As part of this recognition the RSU #74 Board of Directors will endeavor to provide instructional staff at all levels with such planning and preparation time that is adequate and equitable.

This policy should not be interpreted to guarantee any one group or school with a set amount of planning time on any given day or week. Every attempt will be made to provide an equitable amount of planning time across grade levels and within buildings, whenever practical and possible.

To the extent possible within the constraints of the budget, staffing and student needs teachers will be provided daily instructional planning/preparation time equivalent to one regular instructional period at the secondary level and to one so called “itinerant” (Art, P.E., Music, Library, Technology, etc.) instructional period at the elementary level. To the extent possible this instructional planning/Preparation time will be provided as an uninterrupted block.
